Laura Colombo

Real Estate Developer

What is your role within the company?

In the company, my role is that of a real estate developer. I am responsible for the development of the company’s real estate projects through market analysis, risk and opportunity assessment, and defining economic sustainability. After these initial evaluation phases, I proceed to outline the project in relation to the positioning of the investment in the real estate market, the sales and/or rental pricing, the construction process of the property, and finally, I collaborate in marketing it to the end client.

By coordinating all these activities, which enable the development of the real estate investment from both a technical and economic/financial perspective, I also manage the resources necessary for its completion, including both internal and sometimes external collaborators.

Furthermore, I work directly with the company management, with whom I share the vision and expectations not only related to real estate development in itself but also to the overall growth of the company.

Over the years, have you noticed an evolution in your position or in the way you operate? How would you describe this change?

I’ve been active in the company for about a year and a half, and my way of operating has certainly evolved, especially in recent months. Initially, since I wasn’t fully operational, it was not easy to connect with colleagues and become part of the company dynamics. Now, as the months have passed, I am finding my place within the team, and consequently, my way of working has become more active and productive compared to the initial months.

How do you think your role has contributed to the company's growth?

My role, which often oscillates between that of a client and an executor, allows me to view the company through the eyes of someone who is “external” to the internal dynamics focused solely on productivity.

Thanks to this different perspective, I can bring to light aspects that are often overlooked by those who are deeply involved in specific daily tasks. Understanding how a client perceives their service provider is crucial for delivering a quality product that meets the client’s needs, and offering a service that best represents the company and its vision.

From this standpoint, being able to work directly with the company management, I believe I can effectively contribute to improving existing processes where necessary and, if needed, propose new visions or operational solutions.

What has been the most rewarding moment you have experienced in your work so far?

Being involved in topics that are not strictly related to the real estate field allows me to participate in other aspects of the company’s activities. This gives me the opportunity to express my perspective, share my experience, and apply my skills in different areas. It is certainly rewarding to be called upon for matters that go beyond my professional qualifications.

Has there been a project that you were particularly passionate about? Why?

I am currently working almost full-time on the real estate development of the HAWA project, which is the reason I began my collaboration with Veragouth e Xilema, and we will soon be starting on-site. But there are other things in the works… I can’t reveal everything just yet!

What skills have you developed while working here that you consider most valuable?

I have been greatly challenging my interpersonal skills and patience. I am learning that it is important to listen to others—whether they are clients, colleagues, or suppliers—without preconceived notions, but with an open mind to all the insights that communication and the exchange of ideas can bring.

Working closely with people who are very different in terms of age, profession, and skills, I have realized that everyone has their own pace, limits, and unique qualities. Myself included! I am trying to learn the best from each person while also striving to be proactive and not limited to my own perspective.

As for being patient, I know I still have a lot of work to do, but there is room for improvement in that area as well. I am optimistic!

What challenges do you anticipate facing in the near future of your professional journey?

Managing projects in their entirety always brings new challenges, whether they are technical, bureaucratic, financial, or situational. I can’t point to one specific challenge, except perhaps the biggest one of all: the challenge of improving myself every day, even through the work I do. However, it’s important that work doesn’t take over my life, my passions, and my personal time.

If you were to describe your experience in the company as a journey, what would be the main stages and why?

The Preparations: That mix of excitement and anxiety you feel before setting off—do you know what I mean? That was the feeling I had before starting my job at the company. Excitement for a new experience on the horizon and apprehension for something that you don’t fully understand yet.

The Journey Itself: Not just as a path from one destination to another, but as an actual journey filled with planning or spontaneity, discovery, disappointment, and wonder.

The Expectation: Which doesn’t always turn into amazement; sometimes, in fact, it falls short of what you had hoped for.

The Experience: The knowledge and skills you accumulate along the way, which will serve you in the short term during the same adventure, or in the future for the next journeys. It helps you avoid repeating mistakes and manage situations as you did before because you already know what worked in the past.

If you had to choose a song that represents your journey in the company so far, what would it be and why?

Off the top of my head, I would say Vivere by Vasco Rossi, because of the line, “Vivere e sorridere dei guai, così come non hai fatto mai… E poi pensare che domani sarà sempre meglio! Vivere… Senza perdersi d’animo mai…” It speaks to living life to the fullest, without regrets, facing the challenges that life (and in this case, work) throws at us, with the belief that the future will always be brighter!
