Center of a research foundation, the building – a prism of 1270 m3 (14.50 x 12 x 7.30 h) – is entirely made of wood. A design concept based on three themes: establishing a meaningful dialogue with the surroundings; conveying a high level of technology; offering a contemporary and alpine architecture image. The structure is composed of three wooden laminated timber trusses of fir, sanded, autoclave impregnated, green coloured with brown glazing, resting on pillars that raise the structure from the ground; the external coat is made of autoclave impregnated, brown coloured, rough fir boards. Behind the wooden facade, the east and west structural walls are full-height glazed, and the ratio between transparent and opaque is 50%. The north and south facades – without windows – are enclosing walls and organize the accesses to the building. The floors are made of polished concrete painted grey. Interior walls and ceilings are in natural fir finished with white glazing. The semi-transparent structural facades provide ventilation and natural lighting.
