Nursery School
Construction of the building, construction with XLAM system and wooden frame, interior furnishings, doors, windows
Location: Cassarate
Year: 2011–2014
Architect: Bruno Fioretti Marquez

The nursery school is located in Cassarate in a large urban block characterized to the east by the pre-existing elementary school and to the west by a gymnasium and two small school buildings. The building is arranged in such a way as to create, together with the pre-existing volumes, a sort of chessboard, where the gymnasium and the schools constitute full volumes to which correspond as many open spaces: the playground in front of the gym, the kindergarten playground, the small square entrance in front of the elementary school. The nursery school is conceived as a miniature city, made up of 6 units: 5 sections plus the multi-level block of central departments near the main entrance. Each of these 5 sections represent a formal and functional unit, each consisting of 7 modules, 5 of which are covered, combined like blocks of an out-of-scale construction game; there are 56 modules in total, 35 of which are full, 13 are empty, 8 are covered. In all its modules, the building is made of wood on a concrete base, respecting the principles of bio-architecture and the Minergie energy standard.
