The new structure fits into the context of the school campus and cultural environment, allowing for various connections with the distinctive surrounding elements. The project is characterized by a square floor plan of the main volume – the sports hall – and by a partially protruding base. To denote the duality between the base and the visible volume of the sports hall, the latter is detached and supported by v shaped bearings on all four sides. The opening allows to illuminate the interior space and creates a connection with the surrounding urban elements. The insulation of the facades is internal and protected in the lower part by exposed wooden battens, and an acoustic panel covering the upper part. The roof insulation is external and protected by a waterproof membrane and gravel. The ceiling is characterized by the strong presence of the coffered structure in exposed concrete. The division of the rooms is solved with a simple vertical drop awning suspended from the beams. From an energy point of view, the building meets the criteria of the Minergie standard.
