Architect Marco d'Azzo, together with Veragouth and Xilema, oversaw the restoration and renovation of a private residence in Montagnola, originally commissioned by German philosopher Max Horkheimer from Ticino architect Peppo Brivio. The house, where the intellectual began living in 1958, was part of a larger project that included a mirror-image twin where economist Friedrich Pollock had lived since 1954. The two members of the Frankfurt School had designed the two buildings together to create a “small utopia” with their respective partners. While the villa initially inhabited by Pollock was demolished several years ago, the one belonging to Horkheimer was purchased by owners interested in restoring and respecting Peppo Brivio's vision. After collecting the building's construction documents and details, it was possible to obtain the information necessary to proceed with the renovation: on the one hand, the preservation of original elements, such as the bookcase in the study; on the other, the addition of new doors and windows consistent and harmonious with the structure.
